Israel Railways and three senior executives were charged with negligent homicide on Wednesday in connection to two fatal train accidents in 2005. The indictments, filed in Ashkelon Magistrate's Court by the Southern District State Prosecutor's Office, relate to accidents near Kibbutz Revadim and Moshav Ahuzam, in June and July 2005, respectively.

In the first accident, seven people died and 248 were injured, 46 seriously, when a train hit a truck that was crossing the tracks. In the second, which also involved a collision between a train and a truck, the train's engineer was killed and 63 people were injured.

The three officials to face trial are Ilya Wolkov, then-deputy general manager for planning and development; Sorin Shiyuvitz, then deputy head of the maintenance and infrastructure division, and head of operations and maintenance Harel Even. The indictments, filed after the three were given a hearing, are for negligent homicide and negligent injury.

In June 2007 the prosecution announced it was trying seven individuals in connection to the case. The state decided not to file criminal charges against the Olitzky company, an earthworks and roads contractor, and one of its executives. The truck struck by the train in the Revadim accident was working for Olitzky, on the Trans-Israel Highway, at the time of the accident.
