Gun-toting settlers slaughtered my donkey, Palestinian shepherd says
By Avi Issacharoff and Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondents
Tags: West Bank, settlers

A Palestinian shepherd from the West Bank village of Burin reported on Thursday that two armed Israelis from the nearby settlement of Har Bracha fired gunshots, killing his donkey and four sheep.

According to the Palestinian, two settlers drove towards him in a car coming from the direction of Har Bracha at around 5 P.M. on Thursday. One of the men, who was carrying an M-16 assault rifle, emerged from the vehicle and proceeded to open fire, shooting in the shepherd's direction, according to the Palestinian. A donkey and four sheep were killed as a result of the gunfire, the shepherd said.

Palestinian villagers in Burin, which sits near the West Bank city of Nablus, have been subject to repeated incidents of harassment at the hands of Jewish settlers. During the summer months, settlers have set fire to Palestinian-owned fields as well as olive trees. Palestinians also say settlers have slaughtered animals herded by shepherds.

Rightists attack, set dog on IDF troops in W. Bank
Some 90 right-wing activists on Thursday besieged an Israel Defense Forces post north of Ramallah, in protest against the civil administration's decision to remove construction supplies from an illegal outpost in the West Bank.

The settlers rallied around the civil administration officials, pierced the tires of a supervisor's car, and sicked a dog on one of the soldiers.

The clash between the settlers and soldiers broke out Wednesday afternoon as civil administration supervisors, escorted by security forces, arrived at the illegal Yad Yair outpost in the West Bank.

The officials came equipped with injunction orders ordering the removal of construction material from the site.

The supplies included cement, building blocks and wood, believed to have been meant for construction of homes in the illegal outpost.
