Former executive sues Al-Jazeera for discrimination

A British woman who worked as a television executive at Al-Jazeera has taken the Arab news channel to court, alleging religious and sex discrimination on the job.

Josephine Burgin, 49, is appearing before an employment tribunal in London this week. She claimed in testimony on Tuesday that she suffered discrimination as a woman and a Christian at the broadcaster's English-language service, where she worked for two years as head of planning.

Al-Jazeera claims there were concerns over Burgin's ability to do her job.

Burgin is seeking undisclosed damages. The hearing continues.
