'Analyzer' arrested in Canada for online fraud
By Haaretz Correspondent and Agencies , By Ofri Ilani

An Israeli living in Canada has recently been arrested in Montreal on suspicion of committing fraud to the tune of $1.8 million, Canadian media reported on Friday.

Alberta police suspect Ehud Tenenbaum and three co-conspirators hacked into the database of a Calgary financial services company.

They then changed the value of the debit cards to an amount higher than their face value.

Investigators are now working to establish whether Tenenbaum, 29, of Montreal, is the same Ehud Tenenbaum who became known some 10 years as "the Analyzer" after hacking into computers belonging to the Pentagon, NASA and the Knesset.

He had been tried in Israel and sentenced to 18 months in prison, of which he served eight.

In recent years, he ran a horse farm and served as a consultant for IT security companies.

His mother, Malka, yesterday accused the FBI of framing her son.

"This is a conspiracy and the FBI is involved in it. A few U.S. bodies made it clear to Ehud that his day would come," she said.

"Ehud was never accused of stealing, he works hard at IT security and doesn't have to steal," she added.

The four suspects were arrested in Montreal and brought to Calgary on Tuesday.

Tenenbaum has been charged with six counts of fraudulent use of credit card data and one count of fraud over $5,000.

He is the only one of the four suspects who remains in custody.
