VIDEO / Police detonate device allegedly aimed for target of Bat Yam shooting

The Israel Police on Friday detonated an explosive device in Jerusalem. The device is believed to have targeted Sami Amira, who is linked to the Abergil crime family and who was also the alleged target of July's botched gangland hit in Bat Yam.

On Thursday, the husband of the innocent bystander who was killed in the botched assassination attempt faced his wife's killers for the first time, when he attended the suspects' arraignment in a Tel Aviv court.

Police arrested Ronen Ben-Adi, the prime suspect, and Shimon Sabah in the murder of Margarita Lautin, 31, killed in front of her husband and two children, aged 5 and 2, while dining on the Bat Yam boardwalk.

Amira was sitting nearby, with two other men also affiliated with the crime organization.

Police suspect that reputed crime boss Yitzhak Abergil ordered the hit, but so far have been unable to gather sufficient evidence for an indictment.

In court on Thursday, Lautin spoke of the pain and difficulty of raising his children alone, saying that "Now I do everything twice as much. Hug them twice as much, kiss them twice as much. I'm sure I won't be able to take the place of their mother, not now, not ever."
