From Mon., IDF reservists to get bonus payments for annual service
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: IDF, Israel, Reservist, Bonus

Thousands of Israel Defense Forces reservists will receive a bonus payment from Monday for days of reserve duty served in 2007, as a new method of payment for the soldiers takes effect.

While the payments are part of a move to further recompense reservists for their service, only soldiers who fulfilled more than 23 days of duty last year will receive the payments. The Defense Ministry will give the money in addition to the funds it has already transferred to cover reservists' wages while they were away from work.

The bonus payments are part of the recently-legislated reserve law. They will be transferred directly into the soldiers' bank accounts.

The ministry will pay different amounts depending on the length of time served. A soldier who serves between 23-30 days a year will receive NIS 2,268, one who serves between 31-36 days will receive NIS 3,400 and one who serves more than 37 days a year will receive NIS 4,500.
