Mofaz: I can make fateful decisions, Livni can't
By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent

Transportation Minister and Kadima Party chairmanship candidate Shaul Mofaz asked Kadima party activists on Wednesday in Kiryat Shmona which candidate they wanted deciding matters connected to the fate of Israel.

Two weeks ahead of the scheduled Kadima primary, in which the party leader will be chosen to succeed Ehud Olmert as prime minister, Mofaz said "I ask today: Who would you want making decisions regarding the significant questions that stand on the agenda of this area and other areas in Israel? And especially here in Kiryat Shmona, the city which has absorbed the most missiles. I can ? She cant," Mofaz said without mentioning Tzipi Livni's name.

Mofaz also said that the crucial question facing voters is, "Who will they vote for? a strong leader who is capable of making the right decisions and leading Israel and the region in the right way or a weak leader that has no experiences or the ability to make these decisions."

"This is a city that has absorbed more than any other city in the state of Israel," said Mofaz of Kiryat Shmona."I was here during difficult hours. We made decisions here that we were supposed to decide together with the local leadership. I served here during my time in the IDF and in security-related positions," added Mofaz.

Referring to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, Mofaz said the resolution "did not solve the problem of a strengthening and re-arming Hezbollah in south Lebanon nor did it solve the perceived threats to the entire region in the future."

"Unfortunately, it has only strengthened Hezbollah," said Mofaz.

Resolution 1701 is the cease-fire agreement that ended the 34-day Second Lebanon War between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.

"Our eyes watch as Hezbollah arms itself and becomes stronger in south Lebanon and stretches its arms to the Lebanese government in an attempt to turn Lebanon into a Shiite ruled state," Mofaz said.
