Israel to shut Gaza border crossings following Qassam strike
By Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: gaza, israel, cease-fire

Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai announced Monday that Israel will close its border crossings with the Gaza Strip on Tuesday in response to a Palestinian rocket attack earlier in the day.

Gaza militants fired two Qassams into Israel on Monday. The rockets landed in the western Negev region and did not cause any injury or damage.

An Egyptian-brokered cease-fire, which went into effect on June 19, has dramatically reduced the number of such rocket strikes on southern Israeli communities.

Israel has closed the crossings several times since the cease-fire went into effect, in response to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, which violate the truce terms.
