Police arrest crime boss Abergil upon U.S. extradition request
By Jonathan Lis

Police on Sunday arrested reputed crime boss Yitzhak Abergil, along with his brother Meir, following an American request for his extradition.

The two brothers are suspected of executing a series of serious crimes in the United States, including an involvement in murder and money laundering.

Abergil has been detained by police for the past two weeks on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Margarita Lautin.

Lautin was an innocent bystander killed at a Bat Yam beach in July when a suspected underworld assassination attempt went awry; instead of striking the intended victim, one of the bullets hit her.

Abergil was poised to appeal his detention on Sunday, when police officers informed his attorneys of their intention to free him and detain him again immediately thereafter for his alleged role in a different crime.

Police officials refused to comment on the matter.
