A seven-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when he fell off his bicycle and hit his head on the ground.

The boy, from the village of Yafiya, west of Nazareth, was not wearing a bicycle helmet and consequently sustained critical head injuries upon falling to the ground.

A Magen David Adom emergency medical team from the nearby Gilboa station arrived at the scene, and a helicopter was also summoned. The boy's condition deteriorated as he was evacuated from the scene and he succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

Magen David Adom issued a notice to the public following the tragic accident, urging children and parents to wear helmets when riding bicycles.

"Wearing a helmet is the most efficient way to prevent head and brain injuries. A helmet that adheres to safety standards and that is sized appropriately should be used. Likewise, the chin strap of the helmet should be tightened and fastened securely to the rider's head. Additionally, it is important to be strict on this matter with small children riding close to home," the notice read.

Earlier Wednesday, the day's death toll on Israel's roads rose to three as a man was killed in a collision between a car and a minibus east of the Shfaram junction.

Another person was moderately injured in the accident, and six others were lightly hurt.

Also Wednesday, a woman was killed when the driver of a commercial vehicle lost control of his wheel and rammed into a bus stop at the Bar Ilan Interchange, near Tel Aviv.

Three other people were hurt in that accident, one of whom succumbed to his injured in the hospital.

The casualties were taken to Belinson Hospital in Petah Tikva and the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.

An initial police investigation found that at around 7:45 A.M., the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a nearby traffic island.

The car then spiraled across the highway and crashed into a bus station close to Bar Ilan University where several people were waiting for the bus.

The fire department was called to the scene to rescue a person trapped beneath the vehicle. The Tel Aviv police are still investigating the incident.
