Anger rises in Ethiopian community over claims of government neglect

Recent government decisions have left much of Israel's Ethiopian population feeling even more disenfranchised than before. And being that the difference between frustration and violence is short, the outcome of a demonstration earlier this week wasn't so surprising.

More than two thousand Ethiopian protesters demonstrated on Sunday in front of the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem, in an attempt to push the government to open doors that it has shut before family members the demonstrators say are stuck in Ethiopia.

he bid to enable the relatives to immigrate to Israel is only one front on which the community is fighting. In another recent development, the government decided to slash the budget of a program specifically designed to assist the absorption of Ethiopian immigrants.
