Kiryat Shmona man, 70, suspected of bludgeoning wife to death

Police arrested a 70-year-old Kiryat Shmona resident Sunday on suspicion of murdering his wife, also 70. The woman died on Sunday morning after sustaining fatal head wounds.

An argument allegedly broke out between the elderly couple in their backyard and the man began beating his wife with a large rock. Magen David Adom paramedics were called to the couple's home and pronounced the woman's death immediately.

Sasson Chemo, witness to the murder, told Haaretz he drove passed the couple's home after work and saw a crowd of people standing and yelling for help.

"I got out of my car and was told that a man was murdering his wife. I called the police and ran into the backyard. I saw a man beating his wife, bent over her in a 'craze'," described Chemo.

Chemo told Haaretz that although he was armed, he did not want to shoot the man. "I didn?t know what to do. I was shocked, traumatized. I couldn?t do anything. She was already dead and the husband didn?t scream or say anything at all. He was just panting like an animal," said Chemo.
