ICQ founder sells another startup
By Guy Griml
Tags: ICQ, Israel

Yair Goldfinger, the prolific entrepreneur and confounder of instant messaging pioneer ICQ, recently exited another one of his investments, for an undisclosed price. The U.S.-based orthopedic equipment manufacturer Aetrex bought the Israeli-American startup Fitracks, which was financed by Goldfinger, the RDT group and additional private investors. Fitracks and Aetrex have collaborated since 2001, when they developed the iStep, a computerized foot scanning system that collects measurements such as the amount of pressure exerted at various pressure points to facilitate the fitting of orthotics and footwear. The iStep is currently available in 4,500 stores worldwide.

dfinger, 37, became an enthusiastic investor in the Israeli and global high tech market after ICQ was sold to AOL in 1998 for $407 million. His numerous investments include iCognito, which specializes in filtering cellular phone content and was sold to Boston Communications Group in 2005 for $5.8 million; jajah, which competes with Skype to provide free and heavily discounted internet telephony services; the U.S.-based Strategy Runner, an online stock trading platform, and Israeli Picscout, a startup that has developed a search engine using advance image recognition technologies to protect against copyright infringements.
