Yeshiva shooter's house to be demolished
By Amos Harel

The house of the terrorist who killed eight students at Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav Yeshiva will be destroyed, Defense Minister Ehud Barak decided yesterday.

The terrorist's family can still appeal the decision, first to GOC Central Command Yair Golan and then to the High Court of Justice. The terrorist himself, Ala Abu Dahim, was killed by an off-duty army officer several minutes after he began his shooting spree this March.

This will be the first time in five years that the government has destroyed a terrorist's house in East Jerusalem.

However, this demolition is expected to be soon followed by two others: the homes of the two bulldozer drivers, both residents of East Jerusalem, who used their vehicles to carry out attacks in the capital earlier this summer.

In 2005, Israel ceased demolishing terrorists' homes entirely, on the recommendation of a committee chaired by Maj. Gen. Udi Shani. Barak consulted with senior defense officials before deciding to reverse this policy. Justice Ministry professionals also approved the decision.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced his support for demolishing Abu Dahim's house shortly after the attack occurred.

Tomer Zarchin contributed to this report.
