Or Akiva man suspected of conspiring to cause his mistress to miscarry
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: police, abortion, Israel

Police detained an Or Akiva resident on Sunday night on suspicion that he conspired to force his mistress to undergo an abortion.

Yossi Gabtso, 42, allegedly became angry with the prospective victim, 33, when she did not agree to a termination after she became pregnant by him. Police believe that the man had a relationship with the woman and feared the pregnancy might expose him.

Police claim that Gabtso asked David Friedman, of Zikhron Yaakov, to help him to find someone who would carry out his girlfriend's abortion, in exchange for money.

Police received intelligence information about the suspect's intent and informed the woman.

The covert investigation was conducted over a two week period in order to compile evidence against the suspect and his accomplice. On Monday, the Haifa Magistrate's Court extended Gabtso and Friedman's remand until Friday and Wednesday respectively.

The two suspects are charged with conspiring to knowingly solicit the termination of a pregnancy and soliciting aggravated assault.
