An Israel Defense Forces soldier caught on tape last month shooting a bound Palestinian in the West Bank faced a military court hearing on Monday. Both the soldier and his commanding officer could be charged over the incident.

The soldier's commander, who allegedly ordered him to open fire at close-range on a handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian in the town of Na'alin, faced the court last week.

The military advocate for the Israel Defense Forces, Brigadier General Avihai Mandelblit, oversaw both hearings.

The soldier had claimed he had opened fire upon orders from his superior, but the commanding officer said he simply wanted to intimidate the victim. Both have undergone polygraph tests regarding the incident.

Mandelblit ordered military police to open an investigation after the human rights group B'Tselem released video footage it had taken of the incident. He is expected to decide in the coming days whether to indict the soldier and his commanding officer.

Na'alin has been the site of heated protests against Israel's separation fence, which have led to multiple confrontations with Israeli security forces.

Palestinian, 18, dies of wounds incurred at Na'alin funeral

Also on Monday, an 18-year-old Palestinian died in hospital after suffering critical wounds last week during a funeral procession for a young boy killed at a Na'alin protest.

Ahmed Amira was wounded during clashes with Israel Defense Forces soldiers at the funeral of Ahmed Moussa, 10.

Amira was hit in the head by a rubber bullet and declared brain dead at a Ramallah hospital.

Meanwhile, military police on Sunday arrested a Border Police officer in connection with Moussa's death. According to preliminary reports, Moussa was killed by live rounds fired by the Border Police.
