Bound, stabbed Be'er Sheva man: They tried to kill me for 100 shekels

The man who was abducted Friday and found 26 hours later in a forest near the Negev town of Ofakim recounted the ordeal from his hospital bed in Be'er Sheva on Sunday, saying one of the assailants was an acquaintance of his, and that the attackers who carried out the hijacking and attempted murder stole only NIS 100 shekels.

Maor Ben Shoshan, 29 was mugged and stabbed numerous times before being left for dead in the Lahav forest with no clothes or food, after he visited an acquaintance at his home in Ofakim, when two masked men suddenly barged in.

"They bound me and covered my head and proceeded to kick and beat me, before tying me up and throwing me in the trunk of my car," Ben Shoshan said, adding "all the while, I had complete faith in God and wasn't scared for a minute."

After they arrived at the Lahav forest outside Ofakim, the assailants threw Ben Shoshan on the ground and stabbed him five times. At this point, Ben Shoshan says he realized the attackers wanted to murder him, and so he played dead. The attackers then fled the scene in Ben Shoshan's car and later ditched it in Ofakim before torching it.

"That was the beginning of 24 hours of survival. The night was terrifying, the cold was insane. I tried to crawl to the highway which was about 800 meters away, but couldn't. I prayed all the time and spoke to God, praying for 26 hours, and in the end, he decided he didn't want to hear from me anymore," Ben Shoshan said Sunday.

On Saturday, Be'er Sheva police received a report of a missing man, filed by Ben Shoshan's sister. She said her brother had left home around 3 A.M. Friday to meet a friend in Ofakim and had not returned.

A large police contingent headed to the forest, where they found Ben Shoshan at 4 A.M., after he had been missing for some 24 hours. "He was in shock, and he whispered to us that he had been attacked," Cohen said.

Ben Shoshan, a bachelor who lives with his family and is a familiar figure in the community, manages a clothing store in a Be'er Sheva mall. He said he knew the man who organized the kidnapping and attempted murder, saying that he had employed him to do renovations at his store and would help him with money or clothes during the holidays.

The attackers made off with Ben Shoshan's wallet and the NIS 100 shekels that were inside.

"At the end of the day, he did all this just to get the 100 shekels that I had in my wallet. I would have given them much more," Ben Shoshan said.
