Kibbutz Kfar Giladi apologizes to families of troops killed there

After 12 Israel Defense Forces reservists were killed by a Katyusha rocket near the entrance of Kibbutz Kfar Giladi during the Second Lebanon War, their friends and relatives became embroiled in a dispute with the kibbutz's administration about the circumstances of the deaths.

Some of them claimed that residents would not let the soldiers into the kibbutz's protected areas due to fears that the troops would cause damage to property.

The dispute continued for two years, with the kibbutz denying the relatives' accusations.

On Thursday, however, the quarrel came closer to an end as the kibbutz sent a letter to the relatives expressing regret over statements made during the war about IDF troops, seemingly referring to the kibbutz's allegation that the soldiers' complacency played a part in their deaths.

In the letter, the kibbutz wrote that the statements were not actually made in reference to the fallen soldiers' unit.
