From now on, the winner of soccer's Toto Cup will participate in the following season's UEFA Cup, according to a tentative agreement worked out between the Israel Sports Betting Board and the Israel Football Association. The compromise deal, which requires the final approval of IFA chair Avi Luzon, is expected to take a few days to be finalized. However, the delay in working out the details means the IFA will postpone the first round of games from this weekend to the following weekend. (Moshe Harush)

Soccer club Hapoel Tel Aviv is expected to complete the transfer of Gil Vermuth from Ghent today. Hapoel officials let the Belgian club know they would raise their initial bid to the extent that Ghent would show flexibility on its asking price of $1 million. The two sides reached an understanding yesterday on the price, and Hapoel will pay $400,000. Should the deal fall through today, Hapoel plans to withdraw its bid, as it got the impression Ghent was amenable to the reduced amount. (Yaniv Kobovic)
