Israeli woman killed in boating accident off the coast of Florida
By Haaretz Service
Tags: Jewish Agency, Florida

An Israeli woman was killed over the weekend in a boating accident off the coast of Florida.

Michal Elboim, 24, of Hod Hasharon was in the United States working for the Jewish Agency when she was hit by the motorboat she had been riding in after falling overboard in the Gulf of Perdido.

The driver of the boat had been trying to teach another passenger how to use the steering wheel when Elboim fell from the deck as a result of a sudden jerk.

First aid attempts were made to try and resuscitate Elboim on site and a helicopter was summoned to transport her to hospital but Elboim was pronounced dead on the boat.

Nine other people were also on the boat at the time of the accident. One of the accident investigators said that everything happened very quickly and added that alcohol consumption did not appear to be the cause of the fall.

Elboim, who had been living in Florida for a year, was expected to return home to Israel soon.
