IDF Gaza Division commander suspected of letting son, 14, drive army ATV
By Haaretz Service

The promotion of a senior Israel Defense Forces commander has been postponed due to suspicions he let his 14-year-old son drive an army-issued ATV.

Brigadier General Moshe Tamir, commander of the IDF's Gaza Division, is currently being probed by the army's investigative unit. He was to have been promoted to the position of major general.

The unlicensed teen drove the ATV and crashed into a private vehicle.

Tamir is also suspected of attempting to hide the information from the IDF and of paying the ATV's driver more than NIS 1,000 to keep him from informing his insurance company of the accident.

Later, when it was clear that the ATV required a mechanical tune-up, Tamir was forced to report the accident to the IDF.

Tamir's associated said that Tamir never intended to conceal information or disrupt the investigation.

The IDF criminal investigation division is investigating the matter, an army spokesman said. The military prosecutor and the chief of staff will determine how to proceed once the investigation is over.
