Givataim resident indicted for selling forged university degrees
By Hila Raz, TheMarker Correspondent

A Givataim resident has been charged with selling forged academic degrees from the University of Florida and Columbia State University for thousands of dollars.

The indictment, filed Sunday with the Tel Aviv Magistrates' Court, accused Dror Hasidim, 40, of deceptively passing himself off as an air force officer, a Master of Business Administration and as the main Israeli representative for the American universities, eligible to act on their behalf and set up branches of the institutions in Israel.

Hasidim is also accused of conning Hisdai Eliezer, the head of the Alfei Menashe local council. The State Prosecutor's Office said that in 2003, Hasidim offered to sell Hasadai a bachelor's degree form the University of Florida for $4,000 if he wrote four papers. Hasadai completed the papers and paid Hasidim, and according to the indictment, received a degree and a fake transcript from the University of Florida, as well as a false certificate of approval from the Education Ministry accepting the degree as having been issued by a university recognized by Israel.

In addition, Hasidim is accused of selling a forged doctorate degree to an Education Minister employee, Hannah Stern, for $6,000, requesting that she also submit one paper. Shatran is accused of helping Hasidim by meeting with potential clients and instructing them to submit papers in line with Hasidim's request.

Other charges include fraud and forgery, as Hasidim gave a presentation at the Tel Aviv municipality claiming that employees could receive a bachelor's degree from Columbia State University for $6000 if they submit five papers.

The indictment goes on to say that Hannah Stern later met with the municipality employees who expressed interest to coach them in writing the papers. The employees wrote the papers and paid Hasidim and he, according to the prosecution, gave them forged degrees from the fictional Columbia State University, a forged transcript and the Education Ministry authorization.

In other instances, Hasidim allegedly coached municipality workers himself and then sold them fake degrees from the University of Florida. He is also accused of having deceived Education Ministry employees and seven other people.
