5 drown, including 12-year-old boy, in fatal weekend on Israel's beaches

Five people drowned Friday and Saturday off Israeli beaches, following warnings from the Israel Meteorological Service against swimming in the Mediterranean, saying the waters are especially dangerous this weekend for bathers.

On Saturday, a 12-year-old boy died after drowning off a Netanya beach. Shortly thereafter, a 35-year-old man died in waters off the coast of Atlit in northern Israel.

A 20-year-old man on Saturday died hours after he was hospitalized in serious condition after nearly drowning in waters off the coast of Nahariya.

On Friday morning, a 70-year-old woman drowned off Frishman beach in Tel Aviv. She was rushed to the beach in serious condition where attempts to
resuscitate her failed.

Later on Friday, a 50-year-old man drowned off a non-patrolled beach in Haifa and Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived pronounced him dead at the scene.

Earlier on Friday, a 22-year-old woman was taken to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa in serious condition after nearly drowning near the students' beach in the northern city.

A 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in Hadera in serious condition after nearly drowning off the coast of Beit Yanai, while a 22-year-old woman was rushed from Achziv beach in serious condition, and a 70-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after nearly drowning on an Ashkelon beach.

Also on Saturday, a 30-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after nearly drowning in a pool in the Galilee. Attempts to resuscitate him are ongoing
