Friends, coworkers remember beloved teacher killed in car accident in India Saturday

Faculty at the "Shahar" school in Carmiel will bid farewell Sunday morning to principal Dinah Hosheah, who died in a car accident in India Friday.

Hoshea had worked for several years as principal of the "Shahar" school, an institution in Carmiel for children with special needs. The school will now have to begin its new academic year without its leader.

Hoshea was known as a very popular and trusted educator who gave her all to the students she taught and the teachers she helped train and council in the Carmiel area. She was reportedly a very popular and well known figure in Carmiel and the news of her tragic death sent a shock through the northern Israel town.

Irit Ran, a guidance counselor at the Shahar school, remembered a friend and colleague wholly devoted to her calling.

"Dinah was a manager and a educator who gave her all to the children, and in particular those children with special needs. We, her coworkers, felt that she gave her all to the students out of love and powerful desire to help them. She was a very warm and sensitive woman," Ran said Sunday.

Hoshea was touring India with her husband and two children when she was killed Friday afternoon in the accident near the province of Punjab in the north of India. Her children, both in their 20s, were also injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital.

Irit Shneor, Israeli consul in New Delhi, spoke to the husband but said he was in a state of serious shock and therefore the circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear.

Meanwhile, searches continue for the Israeli tourist who was reported missing in Laos on Friday after a kayak he was rowing rolled over in the Megonk River.

The tourist, 25-year-old Avner Bardugu from Ramat Yishai, was traveling with a friend who managed to escape the heavy stream of water and contacted local authorities.

An Israeli rescue team is making its way to the area, joined by Israel's consul in Vietnam.
