VIDEO / Another delay in Katsav sex crimes indictment as case transferred
By Tomer Zarchin, Haaretz Correspondent

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz and State Prosecutor Moshe Lador decided on Thursday to transfer the sex crimes case involving former president Moshe Katsav from the Jerusalem District prosecution to attorney Ronit Amiel at the Central District prosecution.

The decision was made as a result of the conclusion that the Jerusalem District prosecutors held polar views regarding the case and could not reach a consensus on an indictment against Katsav.

Katsav has been accused by several female ex-employees of various sex crimes, including rape in some cases. His attorneys reached a plea agreement with the attorney General last June under which Earlier the rape charges against him would have been dropped and he would have served no active jail time. However, Katsav later withdrew from the agreement, opting for a trial.

Attorney Irit Baumhorn, who has accompanied the case thus far, said she believed that the indictment against Katsav should include the complaint of A. who worked under Katsav in the President's Residence, a complaint which Mazuz had closed due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The decision to transfer the case to attorney Amiel aimed mainly to resolve the differences of opinion among the prosecutors in the Jerusalem District prosecutor's office, which has been slow to formulate an indictment. However, the transfer of the case from one district to another will naturally result in further delay in the indictment.

Amiel is expected to examine the case and the requests filed by Katsav's attorneys to further investigate certain aspects of the case. Upon completion of her examination, she will submit her recommendation regarding the indictment to Mazuz and Lador. She will then serve as the prosecutor in the case.
