Agadir's mushroom burger (Aviad Herman)
What's the best veggie burger in Israel?
By Anat Ronco, City Mouse Online
On a quest to find the ultimate vegetarian experience, here is our countdown to the tastiest veggie burger.

Moses
Address: 35 Rothschild Boulevard, Tel Aviv
Tel: (03) 566 4949
Burger size: 200 grams
Price: NIS 49

Starting in fifth and last place, with Moses restaurant - who managed to make all the mistakes one could possible make in a single vegetarian burger.

The burger arrived inside a whole-wheat roll which was too large and sweet, on top of which was spread an extra later of mayonnaise. The texture of the burger was not uniform and sticky pieces of tofu that were hard to chew ruled out any element of mystery.

The burger had a weak flavor and if this wasn't enough, the price was the highest of the five restaurants visited.

Black Bar 'n' Burger
Address: 32 Ha'Barzel, Ramat HaHayal, Tel Aviv
Tel: (03) 644 1000
Burger size: 330 grams
Price: NIS 41

In fourth place you'll find the enormous burger offered by Black Bar 'n' Burger. To be precise, 330 grams worth of food with a heap of mushrooms and fried onions.

Black's burger rose above the rest not only because of its size but also due to the concentration of ingredients. The burger contained a terrifying amount of lentils and eggs.

It wasn't bad. Perhaps a little too sweet but without doubt, the pile of mushrooms and onions that were heaped on top were the tastiest part of the whole meal.

Buddha Burgers

Address: Ibn Gvirol 86, Tel Aviv; 21 Yehuda HaLevy, Tel Aviv
Tel: (03) 522 3040; (03) 510 1222
Burger size: 80 grams.
Price: NIS 19-26

To differentiate itself from the other restaurants in the survey, Buddha Burgers is a vegetarian restaurant or according to their definition, a health snack-bar. Therefore, the vegetarian burger takes pride of place on the menu and is the only one also suitable for vegans.

Unfortunately, although the restaurant's burger was tasty, it wasn't really enough to satisfy the appetite.

Agadir

Address: 9 Hamenofim, Herzliya
Tel: (09) 951 6551
Burger size: 200 grams
Price: NIS 39

Agadir Burger Bar claims the respectable second spot with its burger made entirely from mushrooms. Mushrooms are the ultimate meat replacement for vegetarians, and it seems that at Agadir they take vegetarianism very seriously. Those who are not so partial to mushrooms probably won't be able to truly appreciate the restaurant's burger.

Agadir's mushroom burger comes with a choice of white or whole-wheat roll. The burger itself was not too filling and not too light and contained exactly the right amount of salt.

Burgers Bar
Address: 96 Yigal Allon, Tel Aviv
Tel: (03) 563 8822
Burger size: 220 grams
Price: NIS 39

It was not hard to award the burger offered by Burgers Bar first place. The combination of onion and mushroom created a unified and harmonious flavor. The burger had a uniform texture and was not too doughy. The outside was a little crunchy and the level of salt was perfect. It was not heavy yet at the same time, satisfying.

Pure pleasure.
