Palestinians: Israel-PA talks to resume in Washington this month

A Palestinian negotiator said Thursday that trilateral peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority were set to resume in Washington next week.

Senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters that Israeli and Palestinian negotiators will meet there with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Erekat, who is currently visiting Washington, said chief Palestinian negotiator Ahmed Qureia and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni would meet Rice on July 30.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arye Mekel said he did not know about plans for talks.

Erekat also said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert were scheduled to meet next week. Olmert's bureau was not available for comment.

Abbas and Olmert pledged last November to aim for a peace agreement by year's end. The two have met periodically since resuming peace talks at a U.S.-sponsored summit in Annapolis, Maryland last November.
