Jerusalem bulldozer attacker buried in closed funeral in Zur Baher

East Jerusalem resident Husam Taysir Duwayit was buried on Thursday, three weeks after he plowed down a central Jerusalem road in a bulldozer, killing three people and wounding dozens more.

Duwayit's funeral took place in his hometown of Zur Baher, and was attended only by his father and brothers. Police officers were on hand to prevent disturbances.

Israel had postponed the release of Duwayit's body, delaying the funeral.

Once again, police did not allow the attacker's family to put up a mourning tent.

Husam Duwayit crushed cars and overturned a bus on Wednesday on Jaffa Road, one of Jerusalem's busiest streets in early July, and was subsequently shot dead by a police officer and an off-duty Israel Defense Forces soldier.

No major militant group claimed responsibility for the attack and relatives and neighbours described Duwayit, 30, as a troubled man with a record of drug offenses.

They insisted the family had been unaware of his intentions. Rosenfeld said Duwayit, who was shot dead at the scene, had shouted the Muslim slogan "Allahu akbar!" (God is greatest) and said police took that to indicate that he had intended to kill.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, meanwhile, order security forces to demolish Duwayit's home - a tactic used on the homes of terrorists that has in the past provoked international condemnation of Israel.
