Barak: IDF will always work to bring the boys home
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Ehud Barak, Hezbollah, Israel

Defense Minister Ehud Barak Wednesday underlined Israel's resolve to bring back captured soldiers, as the country carried out a prisoner exchange with Hezbollah in which the bodies of soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were returned in coffins.

"As a soldier, an officer and as defense minister, I announce that the IDF will always work to bring the boys home. Alive, wounded or dead. That is what the covenant between the IDF and its fighters and Israeli society means," he said at a graduation ceremony for naval officers in Haifa.

"That has always been our way. Deep and total commitment to bringing boys home. A warrior is always a warrior and we will not waver from that fundamental value in the Israeli military and in Israeli society," Barak said.

Regarding Hezbollah, Barak said that "we are dealing with a bitter, despicable and cynical enemy. An enemy that sees human life as currency. Against this moral baseness, human life as a supreme value and the deep sorrow we feel in light of the loss are the source of our great strength and stability."
