IDF colonel seriously injured in parachuting accident
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Colonel, Israel, IDF

An Israel Defense Forces colonel was seriously injured on Sunday in a parachuting accident near Palmahim.

The name of the officer is yet to be released.

Many elite IDF units undergo training in parachuting for airborne operations, as does the entire Paratrooper infantry brigade.

An Israel Air Force helicopter rushed the injured officer to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer. He had sustained fractures in both his legs in the accident, and upon arrival at the hospital was brought in for an operation.

The IDF has launched an investigation into the incident.

A similar parachuting accident occurred on Independence Day in May, when one of the dozens of paratroopers taking part in an air extravaganza above a Tel Aviv beach drifted toward the audience and hurt himself and four spectators in landing.
