Gaza militants fire 2 mortar shells at Israel in further truce violation
By Haaretz Service and The Associated Press
Tags: Mortar, Israel, Gaza

Palestinians on Sunday fired two mortar shells into Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said, in another violation of the fragile truce between Israel and Hamas in the coastal territory.

The shells, which Israel Radio said landed near the security fence, caused neither casualties nor damage. There was no word if Israel would retaliate for the mortar strike.

Israel has closed vital border crossings with Gaza several times in response to mortar and rocket salvos that violate the truce.

Until a truce with the Palestinian militant group Hamas last month, Gaza militants fired crude rockets into Israel from Gaza almost daily. Sporadic rocket fire has continued since the truce took effect.

On Saturday, Gaza militants on Saturday fired a Qassam rocket into Israel. The rocket struck an open area in the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council, in the western Negev, according to Israel Radio. There were no reports of casualties.
