'Murderer! You're a disgrace to the religion,' slain lawyer's mom tells alleged killer
By Ofra Edelman, Haaretz Correspondent

The mother of slain attorney Anat Pliner lashed out on Sunday against the teenager who is alleged to have killed her, as deliberations got underway in Tel Aviv District Court.

The court hearing the Pliner murder case ruled Sunday morning that it will allow three members of the slain attorney's family to be present in the courtroom during the trial of the teenager accused of her murder.

The ruling is made despite the fact that the hearings are taking place behind closed doors as is mandated by law in cases where the defendant is a juvenile. The youth's lawyers requested to refrain from issuing a response to the indictment pending the completion of psychiatric evaluations.

Pliner's mother, Tehiya Aharoni, exploded in a fit of rage upon seeing the young defendant in court on Sunday. "All of a sudden he puts a yarmulke," Aharoni screamed in reference to the youth's wearing of a religious skull cap. "All of a sudden, he is religious. Does everyone who commits murder become religious? Murderer! [You killed] a woman with two small children!"

As the defendant was exiting the courtroom, Aharoni continued yelling in his direction: "Murderer! Take off the yarmulke, don't disgrace the religion!"

"He was without a yarmulke when he went to murder her, he didn't wear a mask when he killed her. All of a sudden he is made out to be crazy, religious, whatever else one can think of."

The youth, T., once again said he regrets what he did. "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened there," he said upon arriving in court on Sunday. "I don't remember what happened that night." T. said he wished to express condolences to the Pliner family.

When told that T. requested the family's forgiveness, Aharoni replied: "What forgiveness? Can he bring back my daughter? Can he turn someone into the mother of two twins? Can he make someone accompany the little girl to her bat mitzvah? He himself said that he can kill someone again, so why is he now asking for forgiveness?"

When asked about the possibility that prosecutors will strike a plea agreement with the defendant, Aharoni said: "I don't believe they will reach such a stage. There's no chance that they'll even talk about a plea bargain.
