Olmert: Hezbollah's Nasrallah 'scared to death' of Israel

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Hezbollah secretary general Hassan Nasrallah is "scared to death" of Israel in an interview to be published on Friday.

"Everybody knows that Nasrallah is afraid confronting Israel," the premier told the Nazareth-based Arabic language newspaper A-Sinara. "He's scared to death."

Commenting on the Second Lebanon War, Olmert added that he does not regret launching the invasion of Lebanon following Hezbollah's July 12 cross-border raid in which three soldiers were killed and two, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, were abducted.

Olmert said one important outcome of the war is the removal of the threat of rocket fire from southern Lebanon against the towns of the Galilee.

The premier granted interviews to two other leading Arab newspapers - Kul al-Arab and Panorama. The interviews coincide with Thursday's Prime Minister's Conference for the Arab Sector. The interviews will be published in their entirety on Friday.

Olmert also told A Sinara that it is incumbent upon the Arab citizens of Israel to further integrate into aspects of daily life in the state so they can reach positions of influence. The premier added that he is the first prime minister to officially acknowledge that the Arabs are a discriminated minority.

The premier also repeated his intention to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians before the end of President George W. Bush's term in office.
