Israeli tourist missing after reported rafting accident in Peru

Israeli tourist Tomer Ahuan, 23, has been reported missing since Tuesday after he reportedly fell from his boat during a rafting expedition in the Apurimac River in Peru.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying they are unsure when the accident occurred, due to complications the remaining members of the rafting party had in contacting the embassy.

Rescue personnel at the scene are waiting for the first light to begin searching for the missing tourist. An Israeli representative is currently en route to the site of the accident.

In 2006, another Israeli tourist, Moran Khalifa, was killed on a rafting trip on the same River.

In May of this year, the body Tamar Shahak, 22 was found in the southern Peruvian city of Aricifa after an apparent assault in which two people were arrested.

Just a few days before Shahak's death, five other Israelis were killed in a jeep collision in the southwestern Bolivian town of Uyun.
