Man gets 20 years in jail for murdering his wife with a handgun
By Haaretz Service

Be'er Sheva Municipal Court on Monday sentenced a Kiryat Gat man to 20 years in jail for murdering his wife while their two children were in the adjacent room.

Shimon Alkoby, 45, shot dead his wife, 37-year-old Zehava, while their eight and 10-year-old children were awake in their bedroom on June 29, 2003.

The 20-year sentence he received was part of a plea bargain deal reached in the case.

Alkoby suspected his wife had a lover and on the day of the murder he placed a tape recorder under their bed in an effort to record her conversation with the suspected lover.

A fight broke out between Shimon and Zehava Alkoby, during which he pulled a handgun and shot her to death.

His clothes stained with blood, Alkoby then brought his children to his sister's house and told her: "I killed Zehava."

He then - unsuccessfully - attempted to stab his brother in law the latter suggested calling police and reporting the murder.

Several hours later, Alkoby reenacted the murder for police investigators.
