Compensation bill faces vote Sunday
By Gideon Alon, Haaretz Correspondent

The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee will be asked Sunday to approve the penalty clauses of the evacuation compensation bill.

However, it is not clear whether the cabinet will succeed in mustering a majority for the bill's approval as most of the Likud's representatives in the committee object to the disengagement plan.

The decisive vote lies in the hands of MK Azmi Bishara (Balad).

At least eight of the 17 committee members are expected to vote against the disengagement plan Sunday. The opponents consist of four Likud MKs - Gideon Sa'ar, Gilad Erdan, Yuli Edelstein and Naomi Blumenthal; Nissim Ze'ev (Shas), Eliezer Cohen (National Union), Yitzhak Levy (National Religious Party) and Avraham Ravitz (Degel Hatorah).

Eight MKs are expected to vote for the bill - committee chair MK Michael Eitan and MK Roni Bar-On (Likud), Labor MKs Eitan Cabel, Yuli Tamir and another member yet to be named, Reshef Chayne and Etti Livni (Shinui) and Avshalom Vilan (Yahad).

If the committee approves the bill, the complete proposal will be presented to the Knesset Monday. The debate in the plenum will begin on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the second and third reading will take place.

MK Eitan still hopes to introduce a clause conditioning the bill's approval on a referendum, to be held within 90 days from the bill's approval
