Former felon Alperon will not quit Likud committee after all
By Amnon Barzilai, Ha'aretz Correspondent and Ha'aretz Service

Mussa Alperon, the former felon who announced his resignation Thursday from the Likud Central Committee, said Saturday that he would stay in the Likud after all, because of Limor Livnat's reaction to his announcement.

Alperon took umbrage at the education minister's comment in an interview on Army Radio, where she said "good ridance" in response to the news that Alperon had decided to leave the committee.

Alperon also hinted Friday that the investigation into the Likud vote-buying charges may reach Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Livnat and MK Yisrael Katz.

Alperon announced his resignation Thursday from the Likud Central Committee, explaining that he did not want to hurt the party's chances in the upcoming elections, explaining that he did not want the party's failure in the elections "to be on his conscience."

Alperon did not hand in a letter of resignation.

Police have recently opened an investigation into the ties between Alperon and the Likud, as part of the probe into vote-buying allegations in the party. As a result, the Labor Party considered using the slogan "You voted Sharon, you got Alperon" in its election campaign.

On Tuesday, Yisrael Katz demanded that Alperon be removed from the party, explaining that dubious types have taken advantage of the Likud's inner democracy. "If it were up to me I would remove Alperon from the Likud's lines immediately," Katz said
