By Amira Hass: In Ze'evi's footsteps

Yet again Amira Hass omits details, context. Thus she changes facts without committing a falsehood.
Rehevam Zeevi?s main aim in life was to help rebuild his ancestoral home for the good of his people. He was a defender of its environment, a protector of its history (the Eretz Israel Museum owes its existence to his unpaid and tireless efforts).
He believed every Israeli Arab citizen should have equal rights with his Jewish counterpart. The Basic Laws of Israel state this clearly. What he did contend, however, was that those whose sworn aim was to destroy Israel should be encouraged to live elsewhere. NO COUNTRY WANTS AN ENEMY WITHIN ITS GATES.
That was it. Period. Some newpaper hack called this idea TRANSFER. However much Zeevi objected to the term there was always another Amira Hass to ignore him and repeat it.
The irony is that TRANSFER is what the Arab Countries did in 1948 when 867,000 Jews were expelled from Arab lands. 700,000 found refuge in Israel.
