| The problem is that the definition of who is a Jew is a halachic one. Someone born of a non-Jewish mother is not Jewish, unless they go through a halachic conversion to Judaism. Certainly there are wrongs to be righted, in that the conversion process itself, while it has to be halachic, should be made more humane, sensitive and shorter. However, the nub of the matter is that the British court, by ruling as it has, actually has committed a very serious denial of Jewish human rights. For that, this ruling needs to be fought. |
