Israel is engaged in a desperate game of musical chairs, in which no Palestinian will have a seat when the music stops. At one time, Jews were happy with the land given in the original UN mandate. Later they were happy with the 1967 borders. Now they have annexed the Golan, are populating the west bank and east Jerusalem and they are no longer happy. Israel has had such success in increasing their borders that they have become obsessed and secretive about what their goals are. Even the Israeli leadership is unable to pinpoint Israels borders these days. That is rare for a modern nation in the 21st century. This Israeli mindset is not something which can be changed casually, and talk alone is definitely insufficient. If Obama wants to set the table for peace, he needs to begin by showing Israel that he is quite willing to act as well as talk. Nothing would get Israels attention quicker.
