Amen, to #5. While Israelis want immigrants for ideological and infrastructural reasons, they really are not interested in them, nor are they interested in associating with them. Israel, particularly secular Israel, is a very cliquey society which not only excludes people, but deliberately makes them feel like they are garbage and insignificant. Being Jewish in Israel is always a negative. The fascination there is always on the gentile, as long as he is not an Arab. Finally, most Israelis have some sort of interest in emigrating to other countries. The shock of the immigrant there is that they really look down upon him or her, as they have contempt for anyone who would be interested in living in Israel, especially if he or she is Jewish. |
