As #8 Steve mentioned anyone can get a medical marijuana card in California, at least in the more liberal counties. As far as I know all the other states that have legalized MMJ are much more restrictive on who`s allowed to use it. The resistance to MMJ among many police officials and pols is still intense, especially in the South (gee what a surprise). The Governor of Minnesota, who`s dreaming of becoming President, just vetoed a bill that only would have applied to terminally ill patients. There a word for opponents of medicinal marijuana and that word is sadist.
