As such, you will find most restaurants in the big cities "not kosher". Look at the menus and ask the waiters and its obvious that it isn`t . . . kosher. Then again, if you ask, some eateries will tell you that they are because, "they are" according to the way they understand kashrut.

The only kind of kashrut in Israel, at least is the kind that is sanctioned by the local Rabbinates, or the various Haredi bodies that send their own inpectors. They give the eatery a certificate that everyone can see. If there ain`t to certificate, its not kosher.

In our town there was a falefel stand that was "the place". The owner didn`t want kosher supervision until somebody persuaded him to take it on. Many people ate there anyway because they trusted the owner.

So there is no need to fret, most places you want to eat in TA and even Jerusalem are not supervised, even if they say they are kosher.
