| Bernie Madoff dug his own grave. He used not just professional recognition and status, but community recognition and status, to steal his money. He didn`t just fleece the rich. He stole from the elderly and infirmed, he took every last penny from those who expected to live the last years of their lives off of these funds. He stole from charities, including those of which he served as a board member. Worse, he uesd his position as a representative of these charities to promote his fraud. He stole from friends, even as he was planning to admit his crimes, he took tens of millions of dollars from a lifelong friend. He used his reputation to take money that was entrusted to others as fiduciaries to protect widows. He showed ZERO remorse, attempting to send both cash and valuables to family members even after he was arrested. He has remained silent as to his full activities and has not assisted law enforcement in recovery of any outstanding assets. |
