Netanyahu wants Shalit to be released, but he doesn`t want to pay the cost.
Sure, if push comes to shove he`ll entertain the idea of releasing petty crims, jay-walkers and sidewalk-spitters for him, but that`s about all.
Certainly nobody of any worth.
Netanyahu wants a bargain, because a bargain is political gold for him.
Failing that, Netanyahu wants a corpse.
Because there is always a political use that can be made of a corpse.
But those are the only two options he is willing to entertain, and that`s why there is no deal.
Because, of course, Hamas wants what Shalit is worth, and has no interest in short-changing itself.
Why should it, when the only person who would benefit (apart from Shalit) is Netanyahu? |
