I generally do not approve of making parallels between the Holocaust and current situations, but I have to admit that this is a very accurate comparison. Why shouldn`t Jews be allowed to live in Palestine as Palestinians just as Arabs are allowed to live in Israel as Israelis?
The answer (and the sad truth): There will be a long waiting period in between the final peace deal (whenever that comes) and the era in which Jews and Palestinians accept each other with open arms. If Israeli settlers stay behind in the West Bank and become Palestinian citizens (as various leaders have offered), the only moral thing for Israel to do would be to remove its soldiers from the settlements. Unprotected, the former settlers would be picked off like sitting ducks by the more extreme elements of the population.
Unfortunately, the West Bank will be Judenrein for a long time - either by expulsion or death. |
