| It never ceases to amaze me that Israelis genuinely think of Israel as a western , democratic country, a bulwark against the primitive Muslim world. Having something as fundamental to the people as marriage, exclusively in the hands of the Rabbinate, is so archaic and primitive, that Israel cannot be called a democratic western country by any stretch of the imagination. I certainly know happily married Jewish couples who had to leave the country to be married! |
