| The strength of the nations does not matter. Obama wants to be reelected and Netanyahu wants to remain Prime Minister. Obama can`t be reelected by alienating American Jews from the democrat party. Netanyahu cannot remain Prime Minister by alienating the Settlers and their supporters. Thus Netanyahu has the edge because he has never favored a two-state solution and Obama cannot afford to force the issue. There is no support in the US for helping the Palestinians, and there is no support in Israel for helping the Palestinians. The US will never take the actions necessary to force Israel to make peace. The Obama administration has already publicly renounced the use of all of it`s leverage. Netanyahu has paid only limp lip-service to any accommodation with the Palestinians and then only if Settlement expansion is allowed to progress at maximum speed until all Palestinians are pushed out of Judea and Samaria, (aka `natural growth`). The size of the nations matter naught. |
