I`m not familiar with the procedure that this Committee utilized. Hopefully, it wasn`t passive listening. Hopefully, witnesses from each side were heavily and rigorously cross examined. Hopefully, other evidence was looked at critically. At the end of the day, unfortunately, because of the history of the UN Human Rights Council, if for no other reason, the verdict of this Committee will be severely tarnished if not worthless. I fully expect the conclusion that both sides committed war crimes, though I don`t think the process and forum have sufficient rigour and integrity to warrant such a conclusion. Simply put, I don`t see how any self respecting jurist could possibly be associated with this process and, given the history of the UN Human Rights Council, any mandate provided by the Council.
As usual with the UN, what an incredible waste of $, $ that could be put to important and humane use. |
