At least we are fighting in Afghanistan. Israel as per usual with it`s modern army full of shiny things is conspicuous by it`s absence.
The IDF is currently configured to react to a threat that Israel met with some success in the years leading up to 1973. After the peace deals with Jordan and Egypt the threat changed.
However the IDF have not. Consequently as was seen during Operation Cast Lead (HAMAS still in charge Paul?) LebanonII (just exactly which one of Olmerts goals was achieved?).
And yes the UK has the same problem, an army configured to fight the Russians on the central european plain. However working with the US we are reconfiguring our army to meet the new threats. Unfortunatly we are doing it in a time of war. (Unlike Israel if the US has a shiny thing we can have it at cost why we operate the Trident missile system).
However we have the calibre of leadership to do something about it. Israel does not. |
